I have a latex allergy and have heard about the cross reactivity to fruits/vegetables, am I to avoid all of these?

Answered by: Tom Grier at Greer Laboratories, Inc.

All of the foods on this list have been reported to cross-react to some degree with latex proteins. For high prevalence food allergens such as banana, avocado and chestnut, there is a good chance that patients sensitive to latex will express hypersensitivities to similar protein structures found in these foods. Reactions to foods in the moderate, low or undetermined prevalence categories may also be closely linked to latex allergy for some patients. However, not all food-allergic individuals display clinical sensitivities to latex. As a result, ingestion of the foods on this list should be considered carefully by patients allergic to latex.
