Latex Allergy Awareness Week October 2-8, 2016
…Latex of Allergy is one the top ANAPHYLACTIC allergies!
EASTMAN, WI (June 9, 2016) – The American Latex Allergy Association announces the celebration of Latex Allergy Awareness Week October 2-8, 2016. The theme and events this year will focus on Latex Allergy as one of the top allergies responsible for life-threatening allergic reactions known as anaphylaxis.
The importance of Latex Allergy Awareness Week is to highlight the many complex issues of latex allergy and help the medical community and the general public understand the importance of providing safe healthcare and community environments.
“There is no cure for latex allergy,” explain ALAA co-founders Marsha Smith and Sue Lockwood. “Latex allergic individuals must depend on avoidance, awareness and education. We must continue to be vigilant.”
Latex Allergy Awareness Week will offer educational webinars, resources and support to all those interested in latex allergy, especially EMTs, first responders and emergency department personnel; restaurant, grocery and food service workers; teachers and school administrators; and the general public.
Founded in 1993 by a group of health care workers with latex allergy, the American Latex Allergy Association (formerly A.L.E.R.T., Inc.) is the leading national, nonprofit, latex allergy education, advocacy, and support organization. Its mission is to create awareness of latex allergy through education and to provide support to individuals who have been diagnosed with latex allergy.
